Guardianship Specialist
As one of the newest members of the Bridge Disabilities Ministry
team, I work as a Certified Professional Guardian. At Bridge,
it is our mission that every client receives guardianship services
that go beyond the statutory requirements. I visit clients and
am legally responsible for their care. Part of my care includes
outings to ensure they live a in a “quality of life”
environment and are able to connect with the community and assure
their overall good health and welfare.
I have had an interest in guardianship
for some time. I started as a volunteer guardianship associate,
with Bridge in the winter of 2007, hoping my experience in social
services and legal work might be of use. My background includes
fifteen years of drug and alcohol counseling, working in the legal
field doing litigation support work. The last few years I have
been working with disabled adults and I spent a year as a guardian
for a Fircrest Residential Rehabilitation (State run facility)
resident, where my wife Kristin also serves as the Chaplain. Kristin
and I are both drawn to serving the disabled community. We are
deeply and directly aware, through friends and family with disabled
children, of the issues involved with providing quality care and
how connecting with persons with disabilities enriches our own
lives.
I’ve been impressed by the genuine caring and commitment
to excellence throughout Bridge and am delighted to have been
asked to join the staff recently. I look forward to continued
opportunities to meet more people associated with Bridge and serving
those in need.
