History

Our Family Spiritual Retreats is a relatively new program made possible in 2008 by the The Medtronic Foundation. The Retreats are designed to address the needs of families whose children with disabilities are transitioning from high school to adulthood.

Parents often become overwhelmed when they realize the supportive services available to their child from birth to age 17 come to an end when their child graduates from high school. Parents struggle to support their adult child to find a job, build community relationships, and navigate the social service systems, and face significant challenges about what will happen to their adult children with disabilities when the parents are unable to care for them any longer.

The Family Spiritual Retreats provide a welcoming, supportive peer group for parents to share resources, ideas, and understanding.
