Volunteers Make the Difference!

Connecting Persons and Calling Forth Gifts for Ministry

Bridge is fundamentally a relational ministry, and you can’t do a relational ministry by staff members alone! Because of the generosity of so many devoted volunteers Bridge can deliver the magnitude and quality of services that we do!

Each volunteer -- with their unique personality and diverse skills – contributes not only their own giftedness but also expands and enriches the very essence of our ministry with each act of service. Our ministry is rich because of each volunteer! We are so deeply grateful for the host of marvelous volunteers who have chosen to partner with us and are blessed by their presence among us.

“It is not the work we do that is so important. It is the people we work with.
It is the work God does in our lives through them. And it’s the work He does
In their lives through us. That is what’s sacred.”
          Ken Gire

Volunteers play a vital role in every aspect of our ministry.

  • Volunteers choose to give of themselves and their time to engage in relationships with persons who have disabilities -- some through one-on-one relationships, some through involvement in a Circle (a small group) with a person with a disability, and others through participation in special events alongside persons we serve.
  • Volunteers choose to use their skills in office support, equipment repair, or project planning and implementation in order to serve persons with disabilities by assisting them to be out in the community. One phone call, one visit, one piece of equipment giving the gift of independence and mobility -- all of these efforts mean so much to the persons we serve who are often isolated and who are sometimes made to feel “on the outside looking in” in social gatherings and in relationships with others!

    volunteer opportunities available for you.

Serve with us… and your own life will be enriched!
The amazing thing about investing in a relational ministry is that relationships are always of mutual benefit – both people are recipients in the relationship! Even volunteers who do “behind the scenes” types of service find that they personally benefit from engaging with the people, the issues and the work of our ministry. Through volunteering at Bridge you can:

  • Create lasting personal relationships.
  • Experience the fulfillment of helping someone discover their value and their gifts.
  • Use your hobby for enriching someone else’s life.
  • Put your faith into action.
  • Stretch yourself by dealing with your own fears or by being involved in new adventures.
  • Feel good because you have given of yourself to help others and have lived out your values.
  • Invest your special knowledge and skills to meet community needs.
  • Be a catalyst for reshaping perceptions that ostracize persons with disabilities and devalue their contributions and wisdom.
  • Improve our neighborhood by helping to build a more fully integrated and whole community.
  • Grow personally as you slow down to be with a person with a disability, as you gain new perspectives and as you “see the beauty within and beyond all that is broken” (Jean Vanier, The Broken Body, p. 79, Paulist Press, c1988).
  • Have fun as you share life experiences with another.
  • Be part of something of eternal importance!

“Live to shed joy on others!”
- Henry Ward Beecher
