Orientation and Training
For Bridge Volunteers
“We
are truly loving when we help ourselves and others to be all
we are meant to be. A loving life is a life where there is a
balance between fulfilling our own needs and caring enough about
others to help them fulfill theirs.”
- Alexandra Stoddard
We offer a General
Orientation to Bridge Ministries during the volunteer interview.
Several videos are also used to orient volunteers to the work of
Bridge and ministry with persons who have disabilities. A Volunteer
Handbook is provided to each volunteer outlining our policies
regarding volunteer service.
Each volunteer
is assigned to a staff supervisor who provides a specific orientation
in the service area in which you will be working. This staff person
will also offer you ongoing encouragement, support and/or mentoring.
If you have chosen to meet with a person Bridge serves in the Friend-to-Friend
program or Circles of Friends program, the Bridge staff member will
work closely with you to ensure a match which is comfortable for
you and for the person being served.
Some volunteer
positions, such as that of Circles of Friends Facilitator, are enhanced
by ongoing training and networking with other volunteers.
