Group Projects
“We are
not called by God to do extraordinary things, but to do ordinary
things with extraordinary love.”
- Jean Vanier
Many
groups grow closer as they engage in service together! And individual
group members grow as they encounter new experiences, gain sensitivity
and compassion as they touch people’s lives that they do not
regularly interact with, and grow spiritually as they respond in
“hands-on” ways to the call of God to love all people.
Serving as a group helps individual members expand their comfort
zone as they are able to engage in ministry alongside their friends
as well as providing an important opportunity for reflection and
debriefing after the experience.
Our Group Service
Projects at Bridge Ministries are specifically designed:
- To build
sensitivity towards persons who have disabilities;
- To offer
insight in how to respectfully communicate with persons with disabilities,
thus addressing potential fears that the individual might have
which prevents them from engaging in personal interactions with
persons with disabilities; and
- To provide
opportunities for fun interaction with persons who have disabilities
or to provide support services for Bridge’s work with persons
who have disabilities.

GROUP OPPORTUNITIES
•
Equipment Wash! In three or four hours your
group can make a significant difference in the lives of persons
who have disabling conditions by participating in an Equipment Wash.
One piece of equipment provided to a person with a disability makes
a world of difference!
Please visit
Equipment Wash to learn more about
this life-enhancing
service project.
• Hosting a Sunday Evening Celebration! Demonstrate
Christian love and hospitality for persons with disabilities by
hosting a Sunday Evening Celebration. The host church provides a
meal and a short program. This is a wonderful opportunity to expose
folks in your church, in a comfortable setting, to persons who have
disabilities.
Time &
Date: Sunday Afternoon, 4 to 6 pm
Location: Your Church
Please visit
Hosting a Celebration and
Sunday Evening Celebrations
to explore this opportunity for your church.
•
Holiday Celebrations! Choose your favorite
holiday and be connected with a person who has a disability who
will join your group for a holiday celebration or special outing
(Zoolights, luminaries at Greenlake, etc.)! It could be one of the
major holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas or Easter, or it could
be President’s Day or a Labor Day picnic or whenever your
group is planning a special occasion. Special days are often very
hard for the persons Bridge serves because the person is sometimes
isolated and has few connections with family or others in the community.
Being invited into a home or some other small group setting to join
in on the fun of a holiday celebration would be a memorable experience
persons would treasure for years! And your group would be blessed
as well!
•
Yard Work, Painting, Spring Cleaning! Does
your group like yard work, spring cleaning, painting, window washing
and other such activities to spruce up someone’s place? Your
group could do such a service project at the home of a person with
a disability or at the Bridge Office.
•
Host a Birthday Party! A small group could
host a birthday party for a person Bridge is guardian for either
in their group home, in a fast-food restaurant or mall, or at a
park. This would entail things like: decorating for a party, bringing
a birthday cake and favors, interacting with the persons from the
group home and perhaps leading several simple games.
•
Serve at our Benefit Event! Serve at our Benefit
event in 2008 by helping with set-up, waiting tables and/or clean-up.
•
