How to Apply
to be a Bridge Volunteer

“Each time a person stands for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he or she sends forth a tiny ray of hope!
     - Mother Teresa

We invite you to browse through our Volunteer Opportunities to get an idea of how you might like to serve. If you don’t see the specific opportunity you are looking for, please contact us anyway because we may be able to tailor-make an opportunity for you. Sometimes these new ideas for service bring a creativity and expansion of our services that we had not previously envisioned!

Our volunteer opportunities are very diverse, requiring different skills and abilities. Position descriptions are available for all our volunteer positions highlighting the specific skills and abilities necessary for that position.

We do require that all persons who volunteer with us demonstrate:

  • Support of the mission and values of Bridge
  • Sensitivity to persons with disabilities and a commitment to valuing them
  • A desire to support persons in the process of using their abilities rather than rescuing or fixing persons

To apply please fill out the Volunteer Application Form. You can complete this form online or make a copy, completing it in pen and sending it to our Bridge Office. Our Coordinator of Volunteer Ministries will set up a time to explore volunteer opportunities with you and to have a brief interview and orientation to Bridge. Our application process also includes three references and successful completion of a Washington state DSHS background check (required because we work with a vulnerable population).

  • There is no minimum age for volunteer service. Children/youth
under the age of 18 who are in direct contact with persons we serve
must be accompanied by a parent or other adult who has completed
    our volunteer application process.
  • Opportunities are available for school-required community service
    credit.
  • We are not able to accept “court appointed” community service
volunteers because of the vulnerable nature of our work and persons
    we serve.
  • Special event volunteers and group volunteers who serve for one day only
do not need to complete the formal application process but do need to
participate in an Orientation for their project.
